How Taylor Swift Impacts the Fashion World

How Taylor Swift’s Impacts the Fashion World

Iconic. Influential. Talented. Role model. Trendsetter.  These are some words I would use to describe Taylor Swift.

At 35 years old, Taylor Swift has a net worth of 1.6 billion dollars. She has many fans all over the world and is extremely popular. Many people look up to her as their role model.

The Eras Tour and the outfits

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour lasted for a record breaking 21 months. The brands who designed the outfits she wore on tour, reported that they received positive results such as social media engagement and a boost in sales. Some brands that custom made her outfits are Vivienne Westwood, Roberto Cavalli, Alberta Ferretti, Christian Louboutin and Versace.

Versace made the crystal bodysuit for Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover’ era. They gained 2.5 million likes on Instagram from posting pictures of Swift, ten times the amount they usually receive.

With a tremendous amount of Swifties going to the Eras Tour, all of them need outfits.  Small businesses realized that and tried to change products to attract Swifties. An example is Hazel and Olive. They had a 40% increase in sales because of the Eras Tour, and their marketing move to rename their products. They also changed the description to make it more appealing to Swifties.

The Taylor Swift Effect

Taylor Swift has a major fan base and a large influence on people. POPFLEX, a brand founded by Cassey Ho, had its biggest sale in May 2024 because of Taylor Swift. She posted a video for her “For a Fortnight” challenge and wore the Pirouette Skort (a product from POPFLEX) for 3 seconds. That caused the product to sell out within 15 minutes of being featured. It led to 10,000 skorts being pre-ordered.

Little Lies had a 17,000% increase in sales compared to last year because Taylor Swift was seen wearing a dress from them. This happened in January 2024. The dress that Taylor wore sold out immediately, breaking their sales record.

These are some examples of the Taylor Swift Effect. You can see the effect that Taylor has on these brands, if it’s social media wise or sales.

NFL attire

Travis Kelce, a football player on the Kansas City Chiefs is dating Taylor Swift. She has been attending his games and whether you like it or not, her fans have too. Travis Kelce’s jersey sales went up almost 400% after Taylor went to a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago Bears. That led him to become one of the top five bestselling NFL players.

The impact

You can see the impact that she has on the fashion industry and the positive ways her fans affect brands. No matter if it’s a small business or a luxury brand, it is clear that Taylor Swift has a major influence on fashion.
